Non Owner Sr22 Insurance

Reader’s Question:

My sister and her husband live next door, and I borrow her car a lot. Do I have to get non owner sr22 insurance?

Have you asked your auto insurance agent about this? I recommend you check whether or not you can be listed under your sister’s auto insurance policy. She is required to submit the names of all the drivers in the family even student drivers. The roster isn’t limited to household members. If you use her car as often as you say you do, maybe she could get you listed as one of the drivers of her car. This way, you can get coverage, as well, Jeremy.

As for non owner sr22 insurance, this is generally offered to those who need proof of auto insurance in order to get their driver’s license. By the way, an SR22 is only a form which proves that one is properly insured and consequently is able to pay for any damage in the event of an accident. For example, a driver with a history of Drinking under the Influence (DUI) may be required by the court to show proof that if he or she gets into another road accident (which is likely if one tends to drink and drive), he or she will be able to take responsibility for his or her negligence. Without an SR22, this driver won’t be able to get a driver’s license.
