sr22 non owners
Reader’s Question:
I sold my car and I just want to know if that will take care of my sr22 since I wont be driving any car?
Grace
Thank you for asking Grace.
If you are required by your state to provide proof of financial responsibility for 3 years in the form of filing an SR-22 certificate then that means even if you sold your car you will likely still have to continue and maintain your SR-22 coverage.
In some states that require for an SR-22 to get a license reinstated after a conviction, or if you were found driving without insurance or because of DUI, the driver is normally required to carry sr22 to keep your license, even if you do not own a vehicle.
Some states will require you to maintain a non-owners SR22 now that you do not own a vehicle. A non-owners insurance policy permits you to operate a vehicles that you do not own but are given permission by the vehicle owner to drive.
You may contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles to find out if your state will require you now to get a non-owners SR-22.
Goodluck!

Reader’s Question:
What is a named operator policy?
Belle
Thank you for asking Belle
A named-operator policy is also sometimes called a non-owner policy. It is written when the individual needs coverage only for his personal operation of a motor vehicle not owned by him or a family member.
The reason people get this type of policy is because if you are in need of a required liability insurance policy to get an SR22 filed with the state but do not own a motor vehicle.
This type of liability insurance only covers the named insured while operating vehicles. In somet states a non-owner policy includes Bodily Injury Liability and Property Damage Liability. The policy will cover you up to the limits you choose depending on the type of coverage you choose for your policy.
